Kelp Jerky in Treehugger.com!
– Thu, Apr 05, 2018 at 04:50:19 PM
"While there's good reason to be beyond skeptical about any claims of a 'magic bullet' solution to climate change, it's hard to argue with the idea that kelp farming—which requires no fresh water, fertilizer, or dry land and actually helps reverse ocean acidification and sequester carbon— has the potential to be significantly more sustainable than land-based farming. That's especially if kelp is being used to replacing beef in our diets."
We grew up reading Treehugger for eco-friendly news and tips, and so we're really excited by this recent press. Just 4 days left in our campaign! Please share the article with your friends and family: "Kelp jerky start-up blows through crowdfunding goal."

Kelp Jerky - Ingredients & Nutritionals

Many of you have asked for our nutritional information as well as our ingredient list.
We wanted to post both here with the caveat that our Kelp Jerky recipe is still under development, so our ingredient list could change and our nutritional info will likely change as well (all for the better!).
Our goal in creating Kelp Jerky is to create a healthy, high-protein, low-fat, and refined-sugar free snack that's also full of vitamins, minerals, omegas, and nutrients. As a reminder, kelp is a natural source of vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D and E, as well as minerals including zinc, iodine, magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and calcium. In fact it contains the highest natural concentration of calcium of any food - 10 times more than milk!
Check out our estimated nutritionals and current ingredient list.
Estimated Nutritional Info March 2018
Current Ingredient List - Subject to Change
Minor ingredients include: coco amino, balsamic vinegar, and lemon juice. We're currently working on a no-added salt version.
For each flavor there are additional ingredients on top, e.g. Sea Salt Sesame contains sesame seeds and nori on top; Spiced Turmeric contains turmeric, ginger, chili, and coconut; and BBQ includes rosemary, tomato, smoked chilis, and paprika.
Iodine
A lot of you asked about iodine, which is not always listed on a traditional nutritional call-out. We are estimating that our iodine is approximately 160 micrograms (mcg) per 1.5oz serving, so just a touch over or under the daily recommended intake. Iodine is an essential element, a positive, healthy component to the food we eat (although it is now essentially absence from most terrestrial plant vegetables. Its health benefits play a very important role in the normal functioning of the thyroid gland, which secretes thyroid hormones that control the base metabolic rate of the body.
